Northeastern Enacts New Community Partnerships

Nancy Ardema, executive director, Logan Square Neighborhood Association with Sharon Hahs, president, Northeastern Illinois University

Northeastern has forged new partnerships with key community organizations. On August 28, Northeastern and the Cambodian Association of Illinois held a ceremony to mark the beginning of a new partnership between the two institutions. On September 20, Northeastern held a similar ceremony and signing with the Logan Square Neighborood Association. Additional partnership signings will be held in the coming months between Northeastern and St. Augustine College, the Ethopian Association of Chicago, the PAN-African Association, the Korean American Association, the Korean American Services Center and Family Focus of Aurora.

These partnerships are especially important for Northeastern as it prepares for a fall 2014 opening of its new El Centro Campus. The new NEIU El Centro Campus currently is under construction in Chicago's Avondale neighborhood at 3390 N. Avondale Ave. In addition to serving Northeastern students, the NEIU El Centro Campus is dedicated to providing resources to its surrounding community. The Cambodian Association of Illinois is the first community organization to formally enter into a partnership agreement with the NEIU El Centro Campus.

In September, Northeastern was once again ranked among the most ethnically diverse universities in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report, a distinction Northeastern has held since the category was first introduced in 1997.
